Arena 3 - Making Cosmetics Conference Day 1
The presentation addresses nanomaterials under a regulatory perspective both under a practical and a political view. The focus is on the definition for nanomaterials, the analytics behind, the legal situation and in how far are cosmetic nanomaterials concerned by other regulatory frameworks.
First, particle size assessment, which is the key factor to decide whether a material is a nanomaterial or not. Measurements can be done by a more scientific or a rather practical approach. For the latter EFfCI has published a guidance paper for industry which will be presented shortly.
Second an up-date about nanomaterials under the EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009 is given. For which nanomaterials is a SCCS Opinion available and have any nanomaterials so far been listed in one of the Annexes.
The last section of the presentation will give an short overview of other regulations outside EU or outside cosmetics which may have an impact on the cosmetic industry.
